F is for FEAST - if THIS is on the table, I'LL PASS.

☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀
Welcome to Pearson Report.
I am participating in the 2015 A to Z Challenge.

Yes, I will be adhering to my THEME Calendar.

☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀☀

Alrighty then… Miss Lucyfur did a fine job of manning my “GET ENERGIZED” post. If the ship goes down on her shift I know it won’t be for lack of sleep. Thanks to everyone that dropped in and said HI!

OKAY… HERE WE GO…

Today I’m going to talk about FOLLOWING ON TWITTER.

Let me sum it up as Bryan and Brandon, over at A Beer for the Shower, might, by saying...

WTF  (that's right, you heard me) Don't make me say it again hahahahaha
See…

I do not play the Follow Me Game. (not here, not there, not anywhere

This game, for those unfamiliar with it, goes like this...

You follow me.

I don’t follow you.

You unfollow me.

I don’t care.

You follow me a second time.

I don’t follow you.

You unfollow me again.

I’m amused, but I still don’t care.

You follow me a third time.

I still don’t follow you.

Yet again, you unfollow me.

And still, I don’t care.

HERE’S THE THING

I can understand following that first time, then thinking, nah, this isn’t what I thought it would be, so I’ve changed my mind.

ALL GOOD.

What I don’t get is this business of following the second time. Or that wild and crazy third time.

I watched this gal, WillowRaven, follow and unfollow me three times on Twitter.

Clever me, I finally figured it out… she’s prompting me to follow her back, to up her follower count.

Again, WTF, seriously, don't get me started there'll be no holding me back. The floodgates to my profanity stock pile will be opened, and all (yes, all) hell will spew forth. Could get ugly just sayin'

Anyway...

I decided to read a few of her tweets… and for you enjoyment I’ve added them here.

Click to enlarge, or zoom in - you don't want to miss this.

Well, I have to say… WillowRaven is working it… and working it hard. I wonder if she actually got any of that seven hundred dollars.

Because, if she did… I’m so going to follow every single Twit out there and pimp my cute little ass off for a dollar a shot.

I think I just found Twitter's buffet table and I’m diving in for the FEAST.

Do you follow because you are interested in what the person you’re following has to say?

or

Do you follow just to be followed?  Come on, be honest… you're HUNGRY for the count, right?

Cheers, Jenny

  1. Wait, I don't follow...
Seriously (really), when someone on Twitter follows me, I check to see what type of "Tweeter" (NOTE: NOT a real word) they are. Many times I get followed by someone who looks like they're selling something or offer the chance to get 1,000+ followers. I really avoid those last ones because why in the world do I need to sign up to get thousands of followers? It's like buying friends. I'd much rather have followers who don't mind that I posted a picture of my bare chest last night.
NOTE: If I got your curiosity and you do go check it out on Twitter, might I recommend a barf bag?

    1. I've got the weirdest follows by those same perps… not peeps, perps. LOL
That Willow chick was just too much - geez.

I follow because I want to, not because of the numbers.. If I can laugh, or if the info is up my alley… I'm there.

Sometimes I'm slow to follow - meaning it's not the first reason I'm on Twitter… then, when I do decide to check out who's following, they've pouted and unfollowed… silly chickens.

  2. No, I'm not a twitterer, time is too limited. But it does have its usefulness, or so my daughter has taught me. . .I am not ready to indulge, but it's better not to ever say never. . .

    1. Hi DG - I only started back in 2012 as and A to Z CoHost - even then I was too nerdy to really understand what to do. LOL

Your daughter is right, it has its usefulness - my readership is up over at Write Brain Challenge because of my daily tweets.

I don't use it to tweet about my breakfast bagel that's for sure! LOL

Great to see you here… hope you enjoy the day. With smiles, xxoo

  3. At first I followed who I liked and interacted with them. Then I kept getting more and more and I just used an auto followback, (cheating, I know lol) But Twitter since did away with that, so now I just follow the non spam accounts back. But with 78K followers for me and 85K for the cat, I more or less us it to get blog views and such now. Too much of a headache.

    1. LOL - auto followback - hahahaha Ah, oh to be so popular. Problem for me is I don't want to be sifting through endless tweets that have absolutely no relevance to me - or my writing/blogging.

Wow - you and the cat, are where it's at! Must check you dudes out, and give you a shout!

    1. Hi Mike - I only tweet my daily writing pieces and these posts for the A to Z.
Once the A to Z is done, I'm sure the only tweets the world will see of mine are my Write Brain Challenge ones.

      Thanks for dropping by!

  5. I need to be using Twitter more or at least more effectively. I still think there is a great tool in there to widen my audience.

    1. You hit it with "more effectively" - I think that's the key Timothy. I use it for a purpose.

I not that exciting that I need to tweet my every move, thought, or meal. When I see that I go a little batty! Not judging it, just not my thing!

It is a great tool, I've noticed the huge increase in readership over at Write Brain Challenge because of my daily tweets.

Thanks for stopping by, always a treat having a fellow Ambassador drop in. :)

  6. And here we were not following you... how awkward is that? We're just getting back into this whole Twitter thing after letting it sit for a couple years, though. So we have plenty of catching up to do.

But no, not with endless follows.

We don't follow for the sake of following, because after a certain amount who can keep up anyway? Like if you follow 1,000 people, your Twitter feed is just one big constant gushing pile of random nonsense from people you don't really know. It's a waste. I'd rather be connected to the people that want to interact with us, and if other random people want to follow us, that's great. But don't expect us to just automatically follow you back. Yeah, I'm talking to you, beer company spam bots that keep trying to get us to follow them. Not interested.

    1. LOL - not awkward at all… for me! LMAO. Okay, seriously though, I really don't look at who's following me. Plus, I've turned off all notifications to my phone, so unless I physically go on to Twitter and check out who's following me I don't know.

I can't figure out what I'm doing with my one little life from minute to minute so I most certainly do not have the time to read tweets from thousands of people. I just don't. There's no other way of putting it - I don't have the time.

I follow when I feel there's a common thread, or when I think to do so. Which is mostly never. I'm really only on Twitter to tweet about my Write Brain Challenge posts and these few A to Z posts. Then I'm off living my 'real' life.

I like my real life just fine, and my real friends too - and my real dog. Oh, and Al! He's kinda real… when he's not sharting himself. (I couldn't resist - I needed to work that word in somewhere) :) :)

Thanks for stopping by and sharing you great insights - where would we be with out Twitter - this post would not exist, then what would I have done for F… maybe Pat, and his wile cat, would have some ideas. :) :)

  7. It's pretty easy to get followers on Twitter these days so not sure why people are playing these games. I'll follow most anyone who follows me first except for: those with nothing but ad links in their timelines, and with porn tweets-- a LOT of them out there I've found, hard to get away from them.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Karen, thanks for dropping in.

Yes, it is easy… but for me, I don't see the point. If it's just a numbers game, great, I get it. Some folks love seeing the numbers climb - can be quite addicting I'm told.

For me, it's too much info bombarding me that I really can't process. Like that gal in my post - I could never follow her because it would overwhelm my wee cranium and as it is there's barely enough room in there for the stuff needed to keep me functioning properly. LOL

But… it is a fascination just watching some folks out there. Whether I follow or not I do see what's going on. Mostly I tweet about this A to Z and about Write Brain Challenge, I do a daily tweet (or two) and then I'm off Twitter and going about my day.

To be or not to be… is now… to follow or not to follow… for me the answer is easy… do what Miss Lucyfur does… sleep right through the excitement. :)

It's fun having you join in… Cheers, Jenny :) :)

    1. That's just it, Ruth, why play the follow game. Now… I will say, there are sites I read, and enjoy, but don't comment on. So one could view me as a follower who never comments. I think we all have some of those.

What cracks me up is the quest for followers - why? What's the ultimate point - ahhhh - it's that somehow we place a value on that number when it's high. Well, others, I don't, nor will I.

Like you, there are times I would like to tweet exactly what I'm thinking - now that would be funny! We should think of doing a tag team tweet! :)

  10. I've noticed this same thing, and it annoys the heck out of me. If I suspect someone is just trying to snag another follow, I'll totally ignore them. And funny, but if you have 20 or 30 thousand followers already, and are following a similar number, I somehow doubt you're interested in reading my scintillating tweets in your Twitter stream. ;)

    1. Bang on! I know this may bug a few folks that play the numbers came, well, I say play those numbers at a casino. You've gotta better chance of winning there than getting me to follow. LOL

  11. Hi Jenny - are you going "to pimp your cute little ass off"? The thought of using Twitter somewhat daunts me .. but it could be fun - I need to just have the time to concentrate on it with everything else in situ .. we shall see ... cheers Hilary

    1. LOL - my cute little ass is staying put - no pimping for me! hahahahaha
If I was follower hungry I would, but what's the point if it doesn't do much else.

My reason for using Twitter is to shout out to other like minded writers and share a story or two.

If you don't need it Hilary, don't even start. I only got on it back in 2012 as part of being a Co-Host for the A to Z - even then I wasn't tweeting much. Now, since I've figured it out a little better I like to tweet about my Write Brain Challenge posts and A to Z related things.

Thanks for stopping in Hilary and joining in the discussion. Hugs, xxoo

Thanks for dropping by and sharing in the conversation. :) :)

  13. I left Twitter for along time too. Now I'm back on in hopes of getting people over to my blog. It's NOT working but every once in awhile I get a great author who likes me and I find a new book to enjoy reading. It's a numbers game. Let's face it. I don't both with people who aren't bloggers, writers or authors unless they are local and may benefit Ray also. I follow who I want to follow...period! Not because everyone else does. And then there's Al....lol

    1. It's great for getting a quick message/post link out there. I find using hashtags helpful as it directs like minded folks to the same spot.

As to Ray, I think it's a great tool for his art. It gets them heading to his website which is key. Twitter is just a "little shout out" that helps stir an interest.

Like you, I follow for me, not to get brownie points or win followers. And, yes… then there's Al - gotta love our Al, and follow him, just because! :) Hugs.xo

  15. I hate Twitter. I don't' see any purpose to it. With that being said, yes I have a Twitter account (Yea I know contradictory) but check it maybe once or twice a year? I think my blog posts are automatically posted on twitter. Not sure because I have not check it lately. If someone follows my blog I will 'follow' them as having them on my follower list . But I don't expect anything in return. If I follow someone (by email or blog NOT Twitter) and they don't follow me, I think a) It's their loss b) Oh well different strokes for different folks.c) They don't like my content or can't relate and I'm okay with that.

    1. Hi Andrea - Ditto, if I'm interested I'm all over it - if not… then I'm not. :)

To many folks are wrapped up in the numbers - where for me I follow what I know I'm going to enjoy seeing in my Twitter feed. To be overwhelmed with thousands of tweets, for the sake of followers is just silly.

Like you, I'm still getting the ropes - I have shut down receiving notification on my phone so I don't always know what's going on over at Twitter. Once I do a few tweets, mostly regarding my Write Brain Challenge posts, and related A to Z posts, then I get on with life.

Well, it sure looks like this topic stirred the followers pot!

  19. Your not missing much, Karen. I'm not vexed by the following thing either way. I have unfollowed simply because a blog has closed down. Generally I don't follow willy nilly so unfollowing isn't an issue. Which is probably the same with you.

As to following to be followed, not that I just don't get!

Thanks for popping by. I hope you're making progress on your book - sending hugs and smiles your way. xxoo

    1. Yup, they do! The funny thing is I'm really enjoying having just a few to follow because it's easier. I wouldn't know where to begin if I was following thousands of people.

I find Twitter to have a weird follow display area - does it need to be so big - a single line with the person's @name is sufficient. I think it's all an ego thing personally. That said… I have a big enough ego that any extra encouragement is frowned upon. LOL

Nice seeing you here, Alex - you're one busy man. Congrats on the book tour. I wish you great success with it. Cheers, Jenny.

  22. I don't Twitter, its not that I don't like Twitter, there's just so many hours in the day, LOL :) So not sure about following on it, but I can say that in relationship to blogs I'm careful who I follow and who I follow publicly as opposed to anonymously.

    1. You're right Betty, there are only so many hours and I have better use than sitting staring at Twitter wondering who has said the latest "great" thing. Some of it is so silly, I can't stand it. But there are gems to be found, so it has its purpose.

Plus, it's great for getting the attention of big companies. They don't like tweets that shed negative light on them so they rush to the fix… funny really.

I'm with you regarding following. No anonymous commentors are allowed on my site. I figure we should stand behind our words.

Thanks Betty, for the visit. :) :) xo

I was on Twitter for about 10 minutes. I found the whole thing rather baffling. So Now I am a Twitter drop out. Have a nice day!

    1. It is rather baffling, though once I got the hang of the @ sign and # sign and what they were for, I have found it to be rather basic enough. Some folks load up a tweet with nothing but hashtags (#) and that's annoying.

Because I follow so few people it's not so overwhelming. I know it bugs some followers to not be followed back, but for me, it's all about sanity. :) :)

Maybe you'll venture out and try it again - if you do, let me know. Cheers!
