Happy Birthday to Me
Now that we have the singing out of the way...let’s party!
Well, I'm actually finding the fifteen minutes, and a little extra. Now, that's something I hadn't expected.
I've been working on something in that extra time so today I’ll throw a teaser your way...
The stairs curled down the side of the cavern. It was musty and dank, the air heavy with dragons breath.
Only seven, Elly trudged slowly downward until her toes dipped in water. That was the only way she knew she had reached the bottom of the stone steps. There she needed to wait.
Soon the room was alight with fire, but only temporarily, just enough time for Elly to see the stone steps which lead across the water to the cavern floor.
Over there stood a little table with two chairs. Once across, Elly took her seat and waited.
Okay… as a party guest let’s play a little game...
I'd love to know what your imagination sees when reading these few lines.
In the comment area tell me what you see happening next…
Cheers, Jenny
Thanks for stopping by… always glad to share a piece of cake with friends.
Happy Birthday! Oh how I hope that was your cake...mmmmmm! (thanks for sharing) I like the passage. At first I was scared for Elly, but then realized the dragon might want to be her friend breathing fir to light her way a bit?
ReplyDeleteThe cake is a yearly tradition… and it is yummy!
DeleteThanks for playing along, Andrea - I like how you see the dragon as Elly's friend.
Happy birthday! I hope it is a nice day! Elly might be waiting for a little elf that will take her to where the dragons play?
ReplyDeletebetty
There's lots of possibilities for Elly in this scenario - I like yours. No two will be the same, that's what I like about asking such a question. The imagination is limitless.
DeleteThanks for stopping by.
Happy Birthday Awesome Lady! I hope you have a spectacular day because let's face it...you deserve it!
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like Elly is about to meet up with someone or something very special. Given your Write Brain Challenge, it could be a toothpick that is alive and has a personality!!
Oh dear Barb - I laughed out loud when I read your take on Elly - hahahaha - yes, it could be anything given my imagination, which indeed gets a daily workout.
DeleteThanks for dropping in and sharing my day! Hugs, Jenny xxoo
Thanks Karen! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Buttface.
ReplyDeleteWishing you the best and boogie boogie.
:( And here I went to lots of trouble to put lipstick on… :(
DeleteHaha, I mean Buttface with the bestest of good wishes.
DeleteHugs & Bugs,

Happy Birthday! 15 minutes should be a breeze. Maybe I need to set a low goal for myself like that. I'm sure once you get started you want to keep at it a while longer.

15 minutes adds up - I write between 500-650 words in that time, so, in one year I can conceivably write 182,500 - 237,250 words… now, that's writing! :)
DeleteAlso, by doing my free writes I find myself full of ideas… there's always something I'm entertaining in my mind now.
This was a great comment, Jenny.
DeleteVery happy you've let go like this. Wonderful fun, too.
Happy Birthday JP,
ReplyDeleteDragon's breath is a foul stench. Nothing good comes from caverns where dragons reside. However, there is one dragon who is different. One who is magic. If there was one desperate little girl who needed to see the great dragon she would have to get permission from the gatekeeper who only opened the door once every other full moon. Timing must be perfect.
Hey Bushman, thanks for playing along - you've got a great imagination. I knew you'd see something in this little teaser to work with. :)
DeleteHappy Birthday! It's hard for me to see anything else when cake and a martini start a post. :)
ReplyDeleteBombay Gin, neat, with three olive - cake optional. That's how I celebrate those pesky Name Days… I'm in Game of Thrones mode. Just finished Book 3… will it ever end! :P :)
DeleteShe sees her grandmother whom she hasn't seen since her Nanna passed away a few months ago. She was overjoyed to see her and have tea, once again, with her Nanna. She knew the dragon's breath would awaken magic. Happy Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteVery intriguing, Birgit - along the lines of what I see… there's nothing like a magic dragon to stoke our imaginations.
DeleteThanks for playing along, and sharing some cake with me! :) :)
Happy belated birthday.
ReplyDeleteI think she's be interviewed as a potential caretaker for the dragon.
Thank you! I'll take all the belated wishes I can get. :)
DeleteIn fact, I'm heading out for a belated birthday lunch. Now, if only I can figure a way to do this belated thing everyday! LOL
Ah… that sounds intriguing. I do think a relationship with this dragon is in the works. I wonder how the interview would play out.
Thanks for joining in and playing along. Cheers, Jenny
As she waited, Elly imagined the menacing creature she had heard so much about was beautiful and colorful and would talk with her about all kinds of magical things.
ReplyDeleteSuddenly, she heard the loud, lumbering gait of the dragon coming.
"Goodness, it sounds so huge", she thought excitedly.
Happy belated birthday!
Awwwww… you're piece of writing really was vivid. I saw the dragon "lumbering" along. I felt Elly's excitement. I want more… :)
DeleteThanks for dropping by, belated or not, and playing the game. Fun!
