Dashing through the snow Old Man Winter nips at our heels.

It’s that time of year again, when Old Man Winter dusts the local mountains and chills the air.

Today, as I write this post, the beautiful North Shore mountain range is cloaked in a blanket of rain laden clouds. It is a cold, damp, overcast day...typical of this time of year.

Of course up in those higher elevations the rain is falling as snow and on the next sunny day this is what you will see.

My Header and Background are derived from this photo, taken last year on a walk about I took over to Queen Elizabeth Park, where the view, on a sunny day, is spectacular.

Enjoy the links within this post they will take you on a little visual walk about around beautiful Vancouver, BC.

  1. I always feel astounded and taken back by the beautiful sights you have on this blog Jenny and once again this doesn't fail to disappoint. Your city is wonderful Jenny, a real treat to see during Summer and even Winter. I'd like to visit Vancouver one day, I loved Toronto when I went to visit five or so years ago.

    1. Wel,l you know, Matthew, you've got an open invitation in this part of the world...just let me know when I need to make up the guest bed! :) (I hope you bring along a dear friend of ours too)

It is indeed a wonderful city - I feel very lucky to live here. :)

Brrr!! So strange to see that snow in the background after I had my windows opened all day. We reached almost the 70's today for some bizarre reason. What a beautiful scene, Jenny!

    1. Funny you should mention being in the 70's...just prior to last week we were having unusually high temperatures for this time of year. But, that lasted two minutes as Old Man Winter put his foot down and declared he'd arrived bearing gifts. (well, at least it's not a frozen tundra, or a massive flood, or any of the other terrible weather anomalies OMW has up his sleeve - yup, I'll take cold and damp any day)

This photo is to remind me, all my pals living in the vicinity, that these gorgeous winter days are still ahead of us. :)

And now that weather is headed to us tomorrow! =P

    3. Funny thing was this morning the heavens were blue and the clouds were gone...then, two hours later back in the soup we were.

I packed with my brolly, my layers of outerwear, heels (for work) boots for walking, gloves and scarf...what I've needed so far is just the outer most outerwear (folded the two sweaters) and even kept my heels on.

But, as I look out the window I know I will need the whole shebang because those ominous rain laden clouds are mocking me. (Bastards!) I'm almost sensing those clouds might be snow laden...feel it in my rickety old bones. :P

I think "that" weather is here to stay...might be that OMW is thinking of bringing you your own sweet treat! Enjoy it! :) ;)

  5. That's a beautiful photo Jenny. What a view!
I had to laugh though, your description of rain laden clouds and it being cold, damp and overcast matches exactly what I can see from my window right now - and it's meant to be Summer here! Although I suspect your definition of cold is a bit different to ours ;-)
Enjoy the beauty of the scene, and have a wonderful Christmas.

    1. Looks like Old Man Winter is making the rounds! Seems a lot of places are getting an earlier than expected visit from the old boy!

Cold is needing a parka, fur lined boots and a good hat; here in Vancouver cold means layers of clothing, good rubber boots, a scarf, maybe mittens...all things that can be added and removed quickly. If and when it really becomes winter and we get a nice dusting of snow in the city it might mean hauling out the aforementioned cold weather clothing.

While I definitely have winter clothing for winter sports, in the city I haven't had a "winter coat", as such, in years...I just layer under my durable running jacket and away I go. Ah, such is West Coast living! :)

And, Sue...I wish you and yours all the best for Christmas too! Hugs

Sometimes I think the 'one thousand words' analogy grossly underestimates the value and healing qualities an image has to offer. What a beautiful part of the world. Best wishes. Jeff.

On my laptop I have five different desktops and each has a different image of this "beautiful part of the world" - sometimes I just sit and enjoy the effects of looking at one of these images: calming, soothing, energizing, revitalizing...makes me smile every time.

Thank you for dropping by and taking in the beauty I call home. With smiles, Jenny

  10. You've some gorgeous scenery there. Much of it is similar to the West Coast in Ireland where I grew up. The mountains, the lakes and we also had the ocean, all in driving distance.

You seem to enjoy and appreciate your home and that's a rare and beautiful thing.

I know I'm not the only one that is lucky with living in a gorgeous place...there are quite a few of these gems the world over. I'm glad you live in such a place too! :)

    1. Actually, I am letting her know about your little film...if you have any questions she's the person to ask, just pop over to her website and there's an "Ask Me" button...she loves (and I mean really loves) to help and share her knowledge. So....do ask!

Miss CP will be able to point you in the right directions when it comes to tablets and programs and how not to get caught in the money pit...these things can be a small fortune!

And yes, I am extremely proud of my girl...I love watching her use her Cintiq. Right now on her website is a link to the making of her Christmas card...it is very cool to watch.

Yes...this is a sign that you must continue. I look forward to seeing more animated films over at your place. Good luck! :)

    1. Well thanks Melissa...I think with this kind of a view it's not hard to capture it without too much difficulty. Mind you, getting it on a cloud free day is the real trick...I still aim for that, but alas there's always a cloud or two wanting in on the action.

Yesterday...when the sky cleared it was such an amazing blue it took my breath away, but the mountains were still behind their screen, still dressing for winter I suppose...gosh they do take their time!

Anyway, one of these days I will get my winter scene, cloud free with azure blue sky and then I can really crow! :)

    1. So true, Bushman, so true...just seeing them I feel the magic. Sometimes when I'm driving to work I will pull over and take them in...as if they will be gone tomorrow. I do love seeing my mountains in their many different shades of nature.

This time of year, in their winter whites, they appears so close I feel I could reach out and touch the snow. I'm hoping to try my luck at snowboarding...wanted to last year but here I am still thinking about it!

    1. Hey Al - thanks for sharing your views (throughout the generations) on snow. I'm in the same think tank with you! (more like a shark tank, but hey...)

I love it on those wee hills way more than I like it in the "valley of crazy drivers" - Me...I'd rather walk or bus it when the snow hits our streets because it really is a nightmare. :)

    1. Fishing off the West Coast is amazing (I'm a bit of a fishing nut) - I've always wanted to fly into one of those remote fishing camps and see what I can reel in. Lucky hubby of yours to be invited on those trips - he really should give it a go.

If you've got the travel bug this is the place to come - maybe you can come up with your husband and while he's fishing you can enjoy Vancouver - let me know if you do I'll be your tour guide!

As to the mountains, seeing them daily (when they are not hidden by cloud cover) is truly a highlight of my day. "Truly amazing" sums it up nicely, Lisa!

Thanks for your lovely comment. Hugs.
