Ah… the thrill of knowing we can find happiness in the little things. I was delighted to read about what makes you all Jump for Joy in my last post.

OKAY… HERE WE GO…

Today’s post is brought to you by a RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS.

The phone rang four times, on the fifth he answered. She asked if they had any pork rib roasts. She was doubtful he’d go and look, the butcher had left, he said.

But he did, his voice so cheerful she felt herself choke up.

Back on the line he came, “Yes, we have two.” “I’ll take both, she said, “I’ll be there in twenty minutes.” She hung up and broke down sobbing.

The day had been far too long. The customer service the past several hours had been dreadful, not once, but three separate times, with the same company. The hours on the phone, haggling, cajoling, waiting - the endless waiting - had broken her usually resilient resolve.

She wept. It was a good cry, the release was simply because someone, a stranger, had shown a little kindness, when she least expected it.

Arriving at the store, she asked for the manager. His smile was broad and full of happiness. He told her to wait, he’d bring the roasts to her. She felt her eyes fill again. Kind, thoughtful, helpful people still exist. She just hadn’t seen one in a while.

He looked like a saint, two roasts in hand. As she went to pay, he called back, “I hope dinner’s good.” Then, he said her name and wished her a good night.

The good night spilled over into the following day. She smiled as she served up dinner. It was better than good - it was great! All because of a random act of kindness.

Have you experienced random acts of kindness?

Cheers, Jenny

  1. I don't remember other than the sweet people like yourself, who give me a bright moment that I then take with me the rest of the day.

I did help a woman find her phone in the store I work, while everyone else scratched their heads... I grabbed our phone and asked her to dial her number. Phone rang, someone picked up... Hello. A woman found it another store and was driving around in the lot looking for someone who looked like they lost something.... I walked the woman outside and like a curbside magic... her phone appeared. She teared up and was on her way.

  3. All it takes is one kind act to make someone's day. We have to try to remember that even when we want to tell someone where to go lol

  6. Isn't it amazing when someone does do something so simple that it can be the highlight of our day? It's too bad we don't do or have this in our lives more often. I do try to do something nice when I'm out and about, even if it's just holding a door for someone or letting someone pull out in front of me. Makes me feel good!!

    1. Seems we all agree - simple things count. Often more than the big stuff. I'm a big door holder too - it's amazing how that goes over! And you're so right - it makes us feel good, so it's a double header! Hugs to you, xxoo

  7. Quite recently, in fact. I joined a social media site called Empire Avenue. There was an upgrade I wanted but there was no I could spare anything from the budget at the moment. One or more people got together and donated so that could get the upgrade and it's done wonderful things for my Twitter and FB followers etc.

    1. Hi Hilary - I can count myself one of the lucky ones, for the most part people are very kind to me. This whole phone business was a 3 day nightmare - endless calls, waiting on hold, picking up phones and having delays there… it went on and on. I really was finished. Then this lovely thing happened.

Gives us faith in humanity. Thanks for dropping by Hilary - Hugs, xxoo

  9. This was lovely & makes a day that can feel awful, right again. At work, I have had clients just drop in and bring me fresh vegetables from their garden. I have had beautiful cards and I got, last year 2 tickets for the Shaw Festival where I saw "The Philadelphia Story". I was not expecting any of this and it warms my heart that my clients went to that trouble

    1. I've said this before, but I think we're twins, I have the same thing with my clients. Not necessarily veggies from their garden, though that happened once, but flowers, cards, the occasional gift certificate. It's amazing the generosity and kindness that exists - it's important to recognize it and honour it.

Lord knows it's often overshadowed by the negative encounters so we really need to embrace it when it comes our way.

Thanks for sharing your heartwarming experience. Hugs, xxoo

    1. In my case it was epic - I was so finished I really did have a good cry. One of those exhaustion cries we all need now and then. Only I was having a few days worth back to back so this was a really special moment.

Thanks for stopping by Ruth - hope all's well with you. Hugs, xxoo

    1. Well, it was an act of kindness, to yourself. Which, quite frankly are the best kind. So, you're telling me this was a planned random act of kindness to yourself… hmmm, well, why didn't I think of something like that! LOL

  13. So sweet, glad she was able to get what she wanted for dinner and the butcher was kind to safe them for her :) I like to perform random acts of kindness, its amazing how people react to such a simple thing like letting them go first at the grocery store cause they have a few items and I have a cart full.

  15. My apologies for being behind. Sometime I see a kid in a basket and he asks his mother for a candy. I can tell she cannot afford it so I ask quietly if she would mind if I gave bought it for him. Kindness toward me was my computer repair man gave me a computer he built because he knew the one I had was near the end. Love your post!
