So, the wall has come down!
No, not this one...
The falling of the Berlin Wall
but this one - a curtain wall that used to divide my living room from my kitchen.
After the wall came down we started in on the chimney stack.
But first there was the six feet of it on the roof that needed attending to which was an epic job for Rudy.
I did, however, climb the ladder up to the roof line and tossed the bricks to the sidewalk below. It took me a few climbs up those 27+ feet to get my ladder legs working but once I got my groove back we hustled and had that chimney down in short shrift - team work does pay. (and I saved a few bucks by lending my newly chiselled set of biceps)
While Rudy was patching the roof I was inside giving my all with his mini sledge hammer and a brick chisel - I did some serious damage but not nearly as fast and efficient as “the pro”, my bro!
My handy brother (the first born “real” son after me - remember that story!!) did the bulk of the smashing - I was relegated to the “hauling it out” detail.
I’ve been sourcing flooring - tossing the coin still about using hardwood or going with engineered laminate - it’s a tough call because I do like the look and wear of hardwood so I think I’m leaning in that direction.
I'm placing my order for windows and doors (all to be replaced) in the next day or two - wow - the choices in this category are stunning and mind boggling. More later…
I also hit up Ikea and checked out their kitchens - yup they make it easy with their on-line design program. So without too much difficulty I got that done and will do a quick cost comparison with two other places (I’m leaning with Ikea) but I like to know the numbers either way.
Then there's the appliances - this is a jungle unto itself. Again, more later.
That's it in a nutshell... I wanted to drop in and tell you I'm buried under the rubble of renovating but otherwise I’m alive and running at a good tempo - I'm bound to finish this renovation race one of these days but until then it will be hits and misses out here in Bloggerville - I DO MISS YOU ALL!
I will make sporadic appearances but for now this is just a quick update to let you all know where I’ve been.
I hope Summer touches all of you with warmth and happiness - and for those of you living where it’s actually heading into Winter I wish you the same warmth and happiness only bundled up in extra layers of clothing to make it bearable.
And you... have you been doing any renovating?
Maybe a garden, a special room, or your "self" (a little toning perhaps?) - what's been on your agenda while I've been absent?
Do fill me in!!
