Creative Drawing - Week 8 - the boys, and a little bit more.

Two and a half hours is not near enough time to draw two faces, but I gave it my best in this week’s art class.

I am happy with both drawings - I will complete them as part of my practice, but not before I finish what I already have on my drawing board; tonal values are on my mind and soon they will be part of my current project - which, I am pleased to say, is shaping up beautifully.

Here’s what I drew in class...recognize the boys?

Now, for the remainder of this week I am going to buckle down and finish what I started.

I was told the “eyes” have it so I will share these special eyes; full of hope, passion, kindness and love - beautiful eyes that belong to a beautiful soul.

How is your week shaping up? Any unfinished projects needing your attention?

I would also like to THANK all you wonderful bloggers for following my art journey and leaving such motivating and inspiring comments - I am most grateful for the encouragement to keep going. I will do just that, because of your kindness.

With smiles and hugs,
 Jenny

  2. Okay, have I explained about my disability?

I don't recognize famous people. Not ever.

That said, beautiful drawings, whoever they are. ;)

    1. Em, I've got the same disability - when the teacher handed out the first face we all had this collective blank look on our faces. One lady commented it must be because we are the older set and therefore not with it enough to recognize these young stars.

The first is Ewan McGregor and the second is Matthew McConaughey.

In such a short time period it is hard to really set down the features to have a reasonable comparison...but I will continue working on them as practice. Thank you for saying they are "beautiful drawings" - puts a smile on my face. :)

  3. Really well done ... Drawing faces and hands is the greatest challenge of all I think.

    1. Very true, Martin, the hands are really much more difficult at this time, but I am trying to get in regular practice with my Moleskine.

It seems I have a love for drawing faces, I find myself quite "lost" in the whole process and time flies by in a blink of an eye.

Thank you for following my journey. :)

  4. Unfinished project...oh yeah. Plenty but they have to wait until the weekend for now.
Your special project is looking like it is going to be truly stunning.

    1. Well, dear Mynx, I know you always have an unfinished project held over for your weekend...I think it's what you look forward to - getting in the Girl Cave and getting messy! :P

Thank you for cheering me on! :)

  5. I love your drawing of the two actors Jenny, I think they're actors as least because the first person looks strikingly familiar for some reason, is the first one James Dean? Your project also seems like it's shaping up nicely, I adore the job you've done with those pretty eyes. You really can see warmth, beauty, kindness and so many good things in those eyes and they've been perfectly conveyed in the drawing, the drawn eyes are so wonderful and show that love and kindess perfectly, genuinely finding it hard to express how much I adore them right now, beautiful, simply beautiful!

    1. The first is Ewan McGregor, the second Matthew McConaughey. The first one really stumped me when it was handed out and the second I thought was Kiefer Sutherland, so I was batting 100 in the loser's corner. *grin*

Thank you, Matthew, for joining me on this art journey - your kind, supportive words really do mean so much. My passion for drawing increases exponentially because of your amazing comments. Hugs to you.

    1. Thank you, Linda - seriously, I am feeling the "getting better and better" part...I'm still some distance from "good". :)

Don't you just hate modesty? Me too...so damn it...I'm good! (if you say so!) *giggles*

  7. Wow Jenny, look at you and look at these guys and these eyes. You are drawing with such great skill.

Don't you just love that pretty face of Matthew Mcconaughey?

    1. Thank you, Lisa - as I take this art journey, I am amazed at what I now "see" and how different everything looks.

I attribute the "great skill" part to Betty Edwards' "book". I started reading it and doing the assignments at the same time I started my art class.
I don't think I would be making this kind of progress if I was only taking the art classes; sadly, I find the teacher disinterested and distracted, so I'm grateful for being told about Betty's book.

Yes, Matthew does have a "pretty face" I found it less difficult than drawing the first fellow, Ewan McGregor. I didn't recognize either when the sheets were handed out. I thought the second was Kiefer Sutherland! (yikes, I'm not up at all on the hunky male movie stars)

  8. My guess would be Alec Baldwin and Matthew McConaughey. I'd say your drawings made them look better than they do in real life. (grin)

    1. Good guesses - the first is Ewan McGregor, the second is indeed Matthew McConaughey.

Well, Mr. McGregor might like the rest of his face first before you give me too much credit for making him "look better" than he does in real life. :P

As to Matthew, I thought drawing a face at this angle would be difficult but it was actually easier to do than the first.

And clearly, two and a half hours is just enough time to map out the placement of features as opposed to the days and days it is taking me on my personal project. (which I am loving)

How's your chain mail vest coming along? - it too is a time thing, eh...lots and lots of time! Seems we've chosen "The Road More Detailed" which runs parallel to The Road Less Travelled! :)

    1. Wow, you've just given me goosebumps - I'm beyond stoked to read that you see "more expression" in my drawing...really, really happy to read this. In fact, I'm doing the happy dance.

Thanks, Lynn, for stopping by and setting the sun up nicely in my neck of the woods...I am basking in its warmth. :)

  10. I THOUGHT the first one was Obi-Wan Kenobi. Or Ewan to his friends.
Such a talent you have, Jenny. Yes, a skill with drawing you possess, yes.

    1. Ah...a Star Wars fan...gotta love ya! Would you believe I didn't recognize him or his buddy, Matthew. Goes to show you it takes more than a pretty face to impress me! *grin*

Thanks for the Yoda-esque words of encouragement! :)
