What version of the “bible” do you have? This is mine...

Source - my book shelf - my camera. It's all about me (so I'm told).

I hauled it off the top shelf - I needed a step stool to reach it; had to dust it off and oil the spine - it’s been a while since I cracked it open.

But...it’s time.

Yesterday, I had a moment.

You know the moment I’m speaking of - we all get them. It’s the one where you suddenly realize you’re missing something and want to reclaim it, or at least see if it’s still alive.

You stop what you’re doing and go hunting, soul searching as it were; you find what you’re looking for because it wasn’t hard to find once you stopped doing the chicken dance and put your mind in neutral for a few minutes. It’s amazing what appears when the dust settles and the din fades.

As of September 19th I will be revisiting a passion from my past

It’s time to sharpen my HB pencils, dulled from years of neglect; soak my brushes, hardened to resemble little clay hedgehogs; and scrape the layers of denial and regret off the blank pages of my sketch book; these things have been patiently waiting for this day to arrive.

I am taking a Creative Drawing class...and I am stoked!

The class is eleven weeks in duration, two and a half hours each class, just enough time for me to make a good mess and laugh as I watch my world unravel!

Are you asking yourself, "How does she do it - writing, wallet making and now art classes?"

Well, they are all related and the art will be helpful for my "wallet sketching" which is, how should I say, in need of help! And, I think it's a great release for some of my pent up energy...it's this or going to the gun club and shooting up some innocent paper targets! I think this art class might be a better use of the paper, right?

I will keep you posted as to my progress! (aka natural disasters - hahaha)
Ahh...I can hardly wait!

And you…
Have you had “a moment” you want to share? I’d love to hear all about it!

Cheers,

Jenny

  1. Yay for you! This is going to be awesome. I was just doodling the other day. I'm not very good, but I love it. And I especially love the art supplies that go along with it. ;)

    1. Good on you too with the doodling - we all start somewhere. My feeling about art, and the expression of it, is so personal.
Everyone is artistic, in some form. How we choose to release the "beast" is based on what comes naturally to each of us. (that could be writing, gardening, sewing, baking and of course drawing...the list for artistic expression is endless)

So keep doodling and let your imagination seep through (and, dear Mel - imagination you've got plenty - remember I read you!) :)

    1. Carole - can I put the pressure on you by calling you my "motivator"?
I felt the creative energy resonating off you when I was in your company recently and it got me thinking...which, as we know, can be like opening Pandora's Box!

You know I'll be asking a ton of questions as I get into it, right? :)
      Hugs, Jenny

    1. Hi Jenn - thanks for stopping by.
I'll most definitely have fun...but as to what comes out of it, well, we'll have to wait and see - the journey will surely be the fun part! :)

    1. Hi Leigh - so good to see you!
I'm looking forward to letting my "inner child" (aka inner demon) out to play - it will be interesting to see if there is a great change/difference to the art I did way back in the dark ages!

I will be posting about the fun and the follies that this little side adventure produces - so do drop by again. :)

    1. Too true, Linda - revisiting old passions should always be fun...or so I'm told! This particular passion will definitely be just that...fun, fun, fun and more fun (and mess, mess, mess and more mess).

Thanks for taking an interest in my little side adventure - I'm hoping it won't be full of pitfalls or broken pencils tips. :)

  7. This book looks wonderful! And the class sounds very cool. I have a list of things I want to do, it's a bit of a long list. (In fact, I think I'll start one on my blog so I can add to it.) You see, you're inspiring!

Can't wait to hear more about your class and the fun. (And it will assuredly have some broken pencil tips, but so what? Just sharpen and get back to the sketchpad, darlin'!)

    1. Hi Em - I like the list idea for your blog. I'd love to know what is on your "to do" list.
Back in June, when I went to Alaska, I went on a great adventure (dog sledding on a glacier) and that was the start of my "Final Fifty" list. (my version of the Bucket List)

It's great doing things that keep us thinking, dreaming, growing and laughing - and this will hopefully cover most of those (I'm sure there will be lots of laughing going on).

Thanks for dropping by and cheering me on! I am looking forward to the first class and to that end I am reading my "bible" - getting inspired! :)

    1. Hello Miss GE - how are you! (as always, looking quite majestic I see!)

I think you're right - it will be a wonderful experience and in the mood for a little bit of wonderful!

Thanks for flying on over and leaving a little sweetness behind! :)

  9. Pursue your passions! I jump around to different ones every half hour or so. I need to sit down and focus.

Show us some of your artwork!

    1. Nothing wrong with jumping around it's the sign of life...so long as there's movement, no matter the direction, I figure it's all good.

I'll be showing off my "talents" once I learn what they are!! :)

  10. Jenny, your drawings are fantastic! I can't wait to see what you draw next with your class. That looks like a good book. I just purchased "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain".

    Have fun Jenny!

    1. I'm really enjoying this book, Lisa, I've had it a few years and did not even look at it. I must have bought it with good intentions then life got in the way.

Nonetheless, I am enjoying it every morning over a cup of coffee and I am amazed at all the information packed onto the pages. I'm not sure I will retain all of it, but that's why I have the book.

The book you just purchased sounds interesting - let me know what you think...I might have to add it to my list. :)

  11. Oh great googly moogly.... I have those moments all of the time. Then I reach back with both hands and.....
    yup. It's still there! (grin)

I'm glad I'm not there trying to keep up with you.
Maybe if I knit you some chainmail socks you'll slow down some....

    1. At least you can still reach back and find yours...mine - gone, like with the wind!

Yah, I make it sound effortless, but truth is that's all I do..."make it sound...".

I'm busy visualizing but my follow through often falls short, or not at all. You, on the other hand, are actually making progress so who should be keeping up with whom, hmm?

And, chainmail socks would definitely be the answer...pink please! *grin* :)

    2. I can just hear you clinking around the house in a pair of pink chainmail socks..... chink! chink! chink!
      Hee hee hee!

    3. That would be me...chinking along, trying NOT to wake the night Mère living downstairs.
      *grin*

  12. that's so delightful, Jennzie! I'm extremely creative and love all things visual and beautiful. I grew up drawing at least ten fashion designs a day, and then stopped when I finished college and started working. I might go back to that hobby of mine, since it was extremely professional and could be one of my future careers too :)

    1. I have always imagined you being creative - and I am not at all surprised fashion design was your calling. I encourage you to get back at it...that's why I'm going "back" to the drawing board (as it were) to rekindle my passion and regain some lost knowledge.

As always, I delight in seeing your little avatar...hmm, time for the fall wardrobe change, or do I have to wait until the first dusting of snow to see you in your winter sweater and hat! :)

  13. Good for you Jenny! That looks like a lovely book . Good luck with your classes. I've always wanted to do water colours and have all the gear, but never got round to it! Your header photo is stunning by the way . Hope all is well with you.

    1. Thanks Diane!
You should get your gear out and just go for it. Given your eye for colour and the way you capture the beauty around you I think you would be a natural...not to mention you have the pictures to work from.

My world is going swimmingly - I wish the same for you! (and if you don't swim I hope life is going splendidly) :)

Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts.

I'd give you a penny for them, but alas we just snuffed it out. Yup...gone!
It's all about the nickel now...so at this rate you can leave 5 thoughts!

Cheers, Jenny
