How to save a post for a later date and time

Many of you know this...some don’t.
I remember how tickled I was when I found out how to save a post for a later date and time.
This is how it's done.

Write a post.
Decide on date and time of posting.
Click on Post Options.
Select the Schedule at option.
Then go ahead and set the date and time.

When you are finished setting the date and time you MUST press the PUBLISH POST button to save it as “Scheduled” to your Posting List.
If you go back and edit this post, you MUST press the PUBLISH POST otherwise it will be saved as a draft.

Finally, this is how it will look in your Posting List.

Besides...in one of my other lives I was a teacher...I’m sure of it...and every now and then the old gal surfaces and wants to be useful (how thoughtful, eh).

Are you already using this handy feature?

  3. And if using the new Blogger interface, the 'schedule' option is on the far right.

    1. Dear Bruce...it is sooooo good to see your smiling face and your great "thumbs up" - I've missed them both!

I only really learned about scheduling through my A to Z co-hosts - they are such an incredible bunch, I'm totally in awe of them - I'm not quite sure how I fit in, but I hope I can uber impress them during April with my "visiting" and "commenting" skills!

So good to see you over at the BLOGDOG blog. Today's post just cracked me up! Thanks for the laugh - you rock too!

  5. I know about it. I even use it and it works for me, mostly.
It irritates me when it is scheduled to post and it doesn't. After the first time, I always go and check to make sure it went live at the time. It seems to do that more if I have a bunch of posts scheduled instead of only just one or two.
So, I am always a bit paranoid that it won't post and I don't use it as often as I would like to. It is just odd because it will say that it is scheduled to post at said time/date and it is past that and still says it's scheduled.

    1. It's hard to trust technology, as I've experienced lately with my new iPhone...yikes, I had to break down and finally succumb to the pressures of updating my very 'old' phone!

Anyway...I am going to change interfaces in Blogger as I've been holding out for far too long! Time to be one of the cutting edge people vs the standing on the ledge crowd...although lately I am ready to jump into the abyss just to escape technology!

  6. some people like to write their posts in advance and save them as drafts but when they later on publish them manually they forget to change the date so their posts do get published but they don't appear in their friends blog rolls at top. You must change the date if you publish drafts manually.

    1. Very sage advice my dear Dezz! I did that once, in the early day, and I couldn't figure out where it went!

Also...as Alex mentioned in an earlier comment...I must modernize and arrive in 2012 wearing my new Blogger interface to the ball! (You are still having a Ball, right... hehehehe (anything to get out of doing the dishes)

Thanks Dezz for popping over and sharing this valuable posting tidbit! :)

  7. New follower. I was sent to your blog when I asked about how to get the embedded comments and then was so pleased when I saw all the other great information. Can't wait to go back and look at what other gems you've tutored on. Because I know next to nothing in the blogosphere.

  9. Wow, I feel so stupid for not knowing this. But thank you. Because I kid you not, I have actually set alarms in the morning so I could wake up, post it, and then go back to sleep.

    1. I did the EXACT same thing until I learned how to do this. Now, screw the alarm clock, I'm sleeping in. Of course, that may be why I got fired.

    2. Hey Beer Boys,
Don't feel stupid not knowing about this, even I was slow on the uptake (I know, hard to imagine, isn't it)...I've even stayed up way past my bedtime to get a post off at the right time!

At least now...I can catch up on my sleep deficit and hopefully regain my youthful good looks!

@Al...you and Ms. Mynx are such fast learners...enjoy all those extra zzzzz's!

  10. I've made that mistake of saving it to a draft. Even used the wrong date and lost it. Finally found it about two years back in my older posts.

    1. I never knew about scheduling until I became an A to Z co-host and learned about it from the Team!! Go Team!!! (you being one of them)

What a drag to lose a post! That would really stress me out.

  12. I need to use this more often. I drive myself crazy trying to do a post and get it out, often staying up late. When here as I have then time, I can write a post then just schedule it for the day.

  15. Thanks for doing this. I discovered the beauty of the "delayed post" during last year's A-Z Challenge. It saved me a lot of trouble because I was able set several posts up beforehand. I learned how to do this via Blogger (which is better than on a street corner-that's for sex ed). So, you may have reached out and touched someone today (which is not as creepy as it sounds).

  16. Thank you! I did discover this years ago, and you are right, it is SUCH a timesaver. I've scheduled posts months in advance with this! ;)

In fact, I have all my A to Z post scheduled (still filling in body parts) and I find myself feeling less stressed about having to remember when to post them.
