K is for Keyboard Kerfuffle

Note: I'm throwing my hat into the A-Z Blogging challenge sponsored by Tossing it out! What you will be reading via the letters A-Z is a little bio about me. This will give you a glimpse into my world and what I do when I'm not here - blogging.

Do you know how hard it is to come up with “K” words - well, do you?
No, really, I’m serious when asking this question - it’s no easy feat - ask Ingeborg  (aka mother) she’s lying on her sofa while I sit with fingers hovering over my laptop waiting for that stroke of brilliance to hit one of us!  (this could take a while...)
With our collaborative efforts in full swing we toss about the likes of:

Kaiser (for the buns mother loves)
Kalamata (for the olives I love)
Karts (homage to my go-karting days)
Katzenjammer (just because we liked the sound of it)
and then there was
Kempt bringing up the rear, in a rather unkempt fashion if I do say so myself. The nerve of some words to just lolly about like that.
Nothing in this group tickled my fancy, so we continued right along in the “Ke” section of my built-in Dictionary.
What? You think I can come up with this on my own - please, credit when credit is due, and this isn’t the time. But thanks for thinking it!
So...along comes Kerfuffle - and I’m like, “Yeah, that’s it! That’s the word - okay what goes with Kerfuffle?”
There’s a moment of silence and then I hear mom ask, “Ya, vats Kafuffel - vat das dat mean, Kafuffel?”
And right then (because I’ve tuned Inge out as I’m trolling for words) up comes the word Keyboard - “YES!”
Houston, we have lift off! We are good to go!
So, have you had any Keyboard Kerfuffles lately?
See, it can be used in a sentence and makes complete sense!
I’m going to make the assumption (bad thing sometimes, but I feel you are all above average folks - you are after all following me) that you know we Canadians have this law that requires everything to be in French and English, including our keyboards.
We’re special!
Mac still makes separate keyboards for each language but PC manufacturers have decided to spare the expense and give us the much desired, much dreamed about, much longed for bilingual keyboard.
And here I thought Santa never got my list!
I did take the time, PC loyalist that I was (note the past tense), and played with each of the keyboards and it boiled down to what was best for my hands.
That extra ‘French’ key, which now bunks next to the return key, would have required me to stretch my pinky to hit the return key. My pinky and I conferred and it was unanimous - PC’s were voted off the shopping list.
I type a lot, in case you hadn’t noticed, and the thought of having my pinky over-extend itself just so I can stay true to my country's need to have two official languages was just asking too much.
There is a fine line...and after my keyboard kerfuffle ended I saw the light - that would be the backlight on my Mac’s ‘English only’ keyboard!

So tell me, any kerfuffles (keyboard or otherwise) in your world lately, eh?
Until L...

  1. Good post.

When I thought of "K" the word "Kite" came to my mind.

And I don't really care about what language the keyboard is in as long as it works.

  2. I too am Canadian, except for the 2 plus years as a "landed immigrant" in NZ, I guess I should be posting in both English and French, eh. My MAC keyboard is English only also. Never noticed. Thanks for pointing Mr Perfect's deficiency! ha ha!

  5. I removed my last comment - way too many typos - not focused!

    Okay, let's try again...

    Glad you liked the post.

Funny you should think of ‘Kite’ - one of the things my daughter and I did, often, when she was little was fly her kite.
It would have been a fun post too - but I couldn’t think of another ‘K’ word to go with it.
I’m in this ‘challenge’ zone where I want to use two words both starting with the featured letter.
I know, I know - we won’t say it out loud - we’ll just think it! (crazy chick)

Well - I am speechless - Thank you so very much for the praise and the award.
I must admit I just stared at my screen and let it sink in - Powerful Woman Writer Award - WOW!
Too cool - how’s that! Really - too cool!

By the way, I never mentioned, after my ‘G’ post, that Mac is still Mr. Perfect - It was a lack of proficiency, on my part (hard to believe, I know) with Gmail.

But, even though my post made light of it the keyboard layout was the ultimate deciding factor - the return was too far away and reaching for it was going to impede my typing.

Miss CP (SUNSHINE IN MY LIFE)
You made my day, dropping in and giving me an OMIGOSH!
How sweet! I’m glad I could add a giggle into your world...and high fives right back at you.

(super big HUGS coming your way - Moo)

Thanks to all for taking time out of your busy lives and dropping in to leave a comment - you are all very special folks.

    Cheers, Jenny

  6. "Kerfuffle." Wow. Much better than Kublai Khan. And safer.
Your keyboard has a "French" key? Hmm, when you press it, do you get wicked tasty pastries? Or does a man show up at your side and insult you? Or does it play Jerry Lewis movies on your keyboard?

  7. My laptop keyboard desperately needs cleaning so I am the queen of typos.
Add that to the auto correct on my iPad and things get silly. Luckily people seem to be used to me

  8. Al - Glad you liked 'kerfuffle' - I've been throwing it around in conversation lately and annoying the heck out of my friends.

The 'French' key is only on bilingual keyboards put out by PC manufacturers - my Mac does not have it.
If it did spew forth tasty pastries I would be sitting her typing on a PC enjoying an éclair with my morning coffee - not the burnt toast I'm having now!

Mynx - How are you liking your iPad? It's been a 'look into' novelty for me, but since I have this new laptop I thought I'd hold off.
Maybe it's post-worthy; giving your thoughts on it would be helpful and enlightening - I'd enjoy reading your take on all things Mac!

Thanks to both of you for dropping by - always appreciated.

    Cheers, Jenny
